Qualia are features of mental representations that constitute the consciousness of experiencing sensory stimuli, emotions, mental and somatic states.
QUALIA are an integral part of cognitive schemas and as such are a key component of your knowledge. Their importance stems from the fact that they constitute your subjective awareness of experienced objects and phenomena, as well as social interactions, emotions and thoughts. Internalized (remembered) in neural traces as mental representations of stimuli from the real and media worlds, they include your knowledge: about the world, about yourself, about your internal feeling of desires, feelings, concerns and thoughts, and relationships with other people.
QUALIA are only available through personal experience. You can't know the smell of a flower by reading about it in a book or having someone tell you about it. You won't know the taste of a fruit if you don't eat it. You won't know what it's like to have a headache if you've never had a headache.
QUALIA are the most important argument justifying learning through personal experience, i.e. interacting with the external world of objects and phenomena and with other people.
